Work is an integral part of an independent life. It conveys meaning, creates identification, provides structure in everyday life and is the basis for providing for one's own life.
Training and prevention work
Addiction, crime and life crises do not just affect a small, barely perceptible section of our society. Anyone who walks through this world with any degree of attention will notice that these problems are present almost everywhere.
Whether at school, university or work, at the sports club, in the neighborhood or among friends and relatives. Everywhere we go, we meet people who are struggling with themselves and with life. But perhaps this also applies to you. Perhaps you are struggling with an addiction that you have been able to hide well up to now, but which is about to destroy your life.

When we talk about addictions, it's not just about drugs and alcohol. Gambling, smartphones, social media, pornography; this list could go on and on. Ultimately, anything that stops you from fulfilling your responsibilities has the potential to become an addiction.
This is where our training and prevention work comes in. The aim is to identify potential dangers at an early stage and take countermeasures. Helping those at risk is not only the responsibility of the institution, the residential community. Every individual and every group has a responsibility here. And this is precisely what we want to raise awareness of: To have a realistic view of oneself and to recognize and respond to the distress of those around me.
That's why we don't want to keep our knowledge and experience to ourselves. We are happy to visit schools, sports clubs, churches, youth groups or wherever you are and talk to you about these topics. How can I recognize the potential for addiction in my life? How do I deal with addiction in my life? How can I meet and help people with addictions? Many questions that do not have to remain unanswered.
It doesn't have to come to the point where someone becomes a case for vulnerable people's aid. Let's work on it together!

Prison assignments
In 2022, around 42,500 people were imprisoned in Germany's 172 prisons. That's 42,500 people who are faced with the question of how their lives will continue after their time in prison. Because they lack prospects, they often go back to their old people and carry on doing what got them into prison in the first place. The cycle starts all over again.

That is why we want to give inmates a perspective for their time in freedom while they are still in prison. Through our contact group work, we want to create relationships that can then lead to a move into shared accommodation.
We also want to work with them on many important issues in their lives:
How do I deal with the guilt I have brought upon myself?
How can I forgive when I have been wronged?
How can I get rid of my hatred and aggression?
How can I restore the relationships that I have broken?
How does life in freedom actually work?

Street work
There is now a public drug scene in almost every major city in Germany. Usually located at the main train station, this scene is often the only social environment left for the people who hang out there. If you walk past these scenes as a "normal" person, your only thought is often that you don't want to have anything to do with these people.
But that is exactly what we want. We believe that change is still possible even when no one believes in it anymore. And that's why we want to meet them where they are at home.

We therefore speak of outreach work. Every Friday, we take a team to Bielefeld Central Station and try to build relationships over coffee, tea, cookies and pastries. In social work, this is known as a low-threshold service. Anyone who needs help knows that they can turn to us.
